Costa Rica Kicks Off Central American Games
Costa Rica News – 2013 Central American Games kicked off in Costa Rica’s National Stadium last night with a bang. There was fireworks, singing, and Costa Rica even managed to set its stadium on fire. We can all be thankful it was built by the Chinese and did not burn down.
In all seriousness this is a great showcase for Costa Rica and its athletes.
From the 3rd of March 2013, the city of San Jose becomes the headquarters of the Central American Games X.
The Central American Games will have the participation of more than 3,000 athletes from the region: Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize and Costa Rica.
In total, they will vie for medals in 26 sports listed at the bottom of this article.
Costa Rica has 22 venues for the games, three of them outside the Capital: Hermosa Beach, where they will hold the Triathlon; Cañas, the location of the equestrian competition and Jaco, where they will carry out beach vollyball and where open water swimming competition.
The country made an investment of close to $25 million for the renovation and construction of the sports venues, as well as other expenses. The Central American sports games will continue until the 17th of this month.
