Costa Rica News – US tourists videotaped what happened to them during the strike.
The three men, three women and a two-year-old girl were traveling when they were trapped in what was going on in Caldera.
The family was visiting Costa Rica for the first time. They now have an image of the country in which there is violence, vandalism and tear gas. The blockades left their minibus stranded and a stone broke the rear window. The video goes black and you hear them screaming. One of them was injured. They were scared and just wanted to leave. They did not file a complaint.
The police used tear gas to disperse the group of protesters. The brawl ended with eight detainees.
Even if the strike has legitimacy, Costa Ricans should be able to demonstrate without affecting safe transit. We don’t want images like this video becoming what the world sees of our beautiful, usually safe, country.
