Much of northern Guanacaste and even parts of the Greater Metropolitan Area shook last night when a 5.5-degree tremor occured. The event was registered by the Seismological network at 6:09, 31 kilometers south of La Cruz.
The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (Ovsicori) and the Seismic Engineering Laboratory of the University of Costa Rica (LISUCR) also reported the tremor. The Oviscori detected the tremor near Santa Rosa de La Cruz.
Residents reported, mainly through social networks, that the tremor felt strong in various parts of Guanacaste. The Mercali scale considers a tremor of 5 or more degrees strong.
