Costa Rica News – 32 homicides have been registered in Costa Rica in the first 16 days of December.
The OIJ projects that the year will close with around 600 homicides, which equals a rate of 12 murders per 100,000 inhabitants. The World Health Organization classifies anything above 10 per 100,000 as an epidemic.
A man was tortured and had multiple stab wounds. His body was thrown near a bridge in La Uruca, San José. It was found at dawn on Saturday. It turned out that this man was the most wanted individual by the Police in the last three days, because he was involved in at least 10 murders over the past few months.
Drivers passing by just after midnight alerted 9-1-1 and the Red Cross arrived on the scene. They left it in the custody of the Public Force, however, as the man had no vital signs. He was identified by his tattoos which coincided with the photos Police had distributed this week.
At this time, confrontation is high between gangs engaged in drug trafficking in the center of San José, especially in the southern part. This is increasing the violence and homicide rates.
