Costa Rica News – The Festival of Lights has been celebrated for 20 years and the magic is something we look forward to every year.
This year there were 9 floats featured. New groups from Guanacaste and Limon participated. Christmas carols and cheerleaders filled the space between floats, as did a version of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.”
This year was not heavily attended but there are veterans who come out year after year rain or shine. Some still arrive at 5 am to hold space for their group.
The fake snow fights are just as much a tradition as is watching the spectacular parade.
Fireworks started off the activity at 6 and the first float, representing the Municipality of San Jose, went down Paseo Colon at 7. This float featured indigenous instruments and sound of nature.
Another favorite float was the one by INS that interpreted the Tico culture with “The Wild History of Coffee with Milk.”
