Costa Rica News – If you were watching Facebook last night and had friends in Costa Rica, they most likely put the words “Temblor” on their Facebook feed.
Two people died of heart attacks after last night’s strong earthquakes. The CCSS confirmed the death of a woman and man in the Garabito Health Area.
The main tremor was 6.5 degrees. Three strong earthquakes shook the whole country between 8:28 and 8:36. The epicenter of the first one was 23.9 kilometers southeast of Jacó, with a depth of 10 kilometers. There were 11 aftershocks reported by 9:57 pm.
Mall San Pedro closed after the earthquake so firefighters could evaluate a crack report in the movie theaters as well as damage to the walls and floor of the fifth floor. In Maxi Pali things fell off the shelves. People were evacuated to the meeting point in the parking lot and saw the signs moving again. Power was out in Alajuela and Orotina. There was a small landslide blocking one lane between Villa Caletas and Playa Herredura.
There has not been a tremor of similar magnitude with an epicenter in the Central Pacific since 1999, according to the historical registry of the RSN.
