Costa Rica News – American multinational conglomerate 3M has established a global service center in Costa Rican capital city of San Jose.
Maplewood, Minnesota-based 3M said the Costa Rican office will operate in conjunction with the company’s similar service centers located in Poland and the Philippines. The service center will provide back-office services in finance, human resources and information technology for 3M’s operation across the world.
Easy availability of human talent and the success rate of the country in hosting global service sector firms were the factors that drove 3M to choose Costa Rica. The company also said that Costa Rican office would play an important role in helping it reinforce global operations in terms of process integration, efficiency, and dynamism.
According to CINDE, Costa Rica’s investment promotion agency, about 139 multinational companies have set up such centers in the country and are offering more than 70 types of services in as many as 10 languages.
“This gives an idea of the potential of the Costa Rican human talent to develop increasingly complex tasks successfully,” said the agency in a statement.
Service sector jobs are growing at a quick pace in Costa Rica. This month, US consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble also announced that it added 200 more people to its operation in the Central American country.
According to Jhon Fonseca, Assistant Minister for Foreign Trade, services sector firms represent more than half (52%) of the companies operating in the free zone area.
“We reiterate our commitment to continue working to create and maintain adequate conditions and qualified human talent for the operations’ success in the country,” Fonseca added.
