Does it strike anyone as strange that the President, surrounded by a phalanx of armed Secret Service agents, is advocating increased gun control?
Or that the same President uses drones to routinely kill members of al Qaeda? The same President who wanted to close Guantanamo?
Or that the Benghazi attack was not on a consulate, but on a CIA transfer point where arms acquired in Libya were being provided to Syrian rebels and that Benghazi is a known stronghold of al Qaeda?
Does it strike anyone as strange that earlier this year the Department of Homeland Security purchased over a million hollow-tipped bullets, enough ammunition to fight a small war? And it is fair to ask, against whom? (This fact caught me the most off guard as this means the USA government is planning on using hollow-tipped bullets against their own population……..Does this frighten anyone else? So they are taking away guns from the USA citizens and arming their domestic policing force. What are they preparing for?)
Or that the Fort Hood murders by an Islamic terrorist shouting “Allah akbar” were classified as “workplace violence” by the Obama administration?
Does it strike anyone as stupid that gun-free zones on a number of college campuses have done nothing to save the lives of students killed at Virginia Tech and nearly twenty other universities and colleges?
Does it make you wonder why Wal-Mart sold out nearly its entire inventory of “Bushmaster” rifles shortly after the Newtown massacre?
Or that Americans, alarmed at reductions in police departments, large and small, due to the current and growing economic crisis, are purchasing guns in record numbers?
Does anyone think the thousands of laws regarding gun ownership have had any effect on the homicide rates in places
like Chicago, Detroit, and other places?
Considering that, as of 2009, the United States had a population of 307 million people, based on production data from firearm manufacturers, there are roughly 300 million firearms owned by civilians in the United States as of 2010. Of these, about 100 million are handguns. A recent Gallup poll concluded that 47% of American households have guns.
In a nation where millions of Americans enjoy hunting as recreation and represent no threat to society, why is one particular kind of gun called an “assault weapon” when all the others are considered “safe”?
If gun shows pose a problem, why is it that there are no shootings at gun shows? Does the presence of large numbers of guns have something to do with that?
Or that Wikipedia reports that “In 2009 America’s crime rate was roughly the same as in 1968, with the homicide rate being at its lowest level since 1964. Overall, the national crime rate was 3466 crimes per 100,000 residents, down from 3680 crimes per 100,000 residents forty years earlier in 1969 (-9.4%).”
Now that “Fast and Furious”, the gun-running scheme of the ATF, an agency of the U.S. government, has been exposed, why does it remain off limits from further investigation by an Obama executive order? Why is the fact the one of the guns at a recent murder scene in Mexico was owned by an ATF agent in Phoenix largely unreported?
Do you wonder why it is always liberals who call for gun control while conservatives call for concealed carry laws? And that those states that have laws authorizing concealed carry have lower murder and home invasion rates?
I could ask or cite any number of similar questions and government programs, but the fact is that ordinary Americans want to ensure their most fundamental right to self-defense and by their gun purchases are demonstrating that as this is being written.

Since he uses Wikipedia as his ONLY *CITED* SOURCE of information, I’ll use it too. From Wikipedia: “Alan Caruba (b. Oct. 9, 1937) is an American public relations counselor and freelance writer who is a frequent critic of environmentalism, Islam and global warming.” I won’t take up more space of the Costa Rica Times to show any more of the Wikipedia article about Mr. Caruba, but, you might find it both enlightening and amusing if you check it out, yourself.
Basicly, Mr. Caruba is a writing *professional* who uses his ability to twist arguments to make his creative essays appear to be fact based when they are just a *selective* placment of facts within his creative reasoning that has no valid logic to its conclusion. For those of you in Costa Rica that are studying the sociology and political science of the United States, Mr. Caruba is one of the best example’s of a person who will stand up and shout a defense of any right wing, radical position. I won’t waste my time attempting to argue against the specifics of an article that is, at best, a creative fiction.
