Costa Rica News – Well it seems that SUTEL has decided their wonderful connectivity and awesome customer service grants them the ability to nearly double their prices. (a bit of sarcasm) If you live in Costa Rica you would see how horrible the government monopoly handles telecommunications in Costa Rica.
It has been seen over the past years as competition has entered the market place for cellular phone service that SUTEL have lost a portion of their market share due to the fact the competitions prices are not only lower but the customer service is much better.
I guess the loss of market share and revenue needed to be found somewhere else. Instead of improving their service SUTEL has decided to nearly double their prices for landlines. Yep that’s right Costa Rica you will be able to get the same shitty service from SUTEL for a higher rate.
The best part is there are not really any other options for landlines, and SUTEL knows this.
In Costa Rica currently the public pays a minimum fee of $3.60 a month for basic phone service, which comes with 160 minutes of calls.
That cost will rise to approximately $6.60 a month.
This increase will apply to both landline phone service in people’s homes and to Voice over IP telephony.
Under the new rate the average Costa Rican household will see its monthly bill for fixed-line calls rise 25.3% percent from $13.80 to $17.30.
Isn’t that great? SUTEL knows that it will be next to impossible for it to improve its customer service and connectivity problems, so the only way they saw to get the revenue they lost to competitors was to just charge more on the market they basically still have a monopoly.
