Most Popular Baby Names of 2012

As we near the end of the year it is time to see some of the trends that happened this year.  Although these names are not very common in Costa Rica they ranked high on the world scale.

What’s in a name? Plenty, if you’re Katniss or Finn.

Nameberry, a popular baby-naming website created by the authors of The Baby Name Bible, reports that Katniss, the name of the heroine of The Hunger Games, took the top spot of the site’s most viewed names for girls, while Finn lept over former top boy names Asher and Henry to claim the most popular male search.

Nameberry boasts nearly 13 million views on its name pages. The authors said 2012 parents-to-be sought out quirky, traditional names for girls, while choices for boys’ names leaned more toward Old Testament, Scandanavian or ancient Roman references.

Names moving fast up the ladder for girls: Penelope, Chloe, Evelyn and Wren.

Names moving fast up the ladder for boys: Simon, Zachary, Samuel and Kieran.

By the way, babies will be born across the nation today, and some of them may end up with Christmas-related names, according to Nameberry.

Some of the more popular Dec. 25 names: Noelle, Chrissy, Belle, Holly and, yes, Rudolph.

I guess the hipsters have taken over!
