They often are caught to keep as pets, but with the new regulation by MINAE it is forbidden to have any kind of wild animals as a pet. If there are any pets wild animals found in a household they are confiscated and released in a national park. It is considered a species under threat of extinction and is protected and regulated by the law of conservation of wildlife.
