Costa Rica News – Uber is a taxi-like service that allows individuals to provide taxi services in their spare time.
Uber has been meeting with Costa Rican regulatory officials at MOPT (Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes). Uber is facing difficulties with entry into Costa Rica due to much opposition from traditional taxi organizations.
The newly appointed CEO for Uber Costa Rica, Humberto Ortiz Pacheco, has been an attorney in Costa Rica for 35 years. He has an ivy-league education from Columbia University, and was a partner at the law firm Coto Pacheco between 2010-2015.
Uber is currently looking for several more people to head-up the marketing and operations functions, according to their spokesperson. They added that Pacheco would not be available for interviews at this time.
